There are some obvious things that Memento & The Lookout share: a main character who can’t retain new memories, a sense of guilt that plagues him about a woman, and a desire to retain his old life. However, these films are actually wholly different, and entertaining in their own rights. Even though The Lookout had Memento to look back on, it’s obvious that Scott Frank didn’t intend to crib anything Christopher Nolan had already done, he intended to tell his own story, his own way.
